The Darkness's debut, the exuberant Permission to Land, was polarity in motion. Justin and Dan Hawkins and crew tramped through the forgotten back 40 of the Top 40 with an esoteric wit more suited to 10cc deep cuts (or perhaps Queen in a "mucking around the estate" mood) combined with completely straight-faced arena-rock hooks. Yet for every person who called in to a radio contest imitating the coy squeals on "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," there was another listener who longed to break the disc over his head and shove the shards down his cake-hole. Still, having a worldwide hit found the group enough supporters so that the Hawkinses' dreams of becoming the snarky successors to Van Halen were plausible instead of pathetic. But success nearly killed them with kindness: The group broke up at least once during the sessions for One Way Ticket to Hell and Back, and bassist Frankie Poullain split the scene.

For those that use the forum, the shops have been restocked and we will hopefully receive new stock when our lorry drivers have been released from Denmark. Why were they in Denmark? I have no idea!

Hawkins confirms third Darkness album

+ posted by FlamingWhopper

Justin Hawkins has insisted that he knew The Darkness' latest album would be a flop.

Despite One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back charting at a disappointing #11, the singer has insisted that a third album is on the cards.

"I always said the second album would be a flop, so we're lucky our hardcore fan base bought it," he told the Daily Star. "We'll be back with a third one."

Belfast Telegraph reports: THE DARKNESS' second album, "One Way Ticket to Hell ... and Back", may not have enjoyed the accolades or chart position of their debut, "Permission to Land", but the group's lead singer, Justin Hawkins, said he was still pleased with the end result and that he wouldn't change a thing about it. He has also revealed that he would have felt "vindicated" if the album had been a flop.

Podcast Party

+ posted by FlamingWhopper

Astute readers of IGN no doubt made note of the fact that at the close of 2005 IGN Music began tossing up podcasts on the site.

What this means is that now rather than reading some of our critically acclaimed interviews with your favorite musicians you can actually hear the interviews (this is particulary great for those who may not actually enjoy reading).

We kicked things off with an in-depth and fun interview with country music superstar (and former American Idol winner) Carrie Underwood.

We followed that up with a bristling, raw & uncut interview with the Mixtape Messiah himself, Chamillionaire.

We next posted a podcast with guitarist Dan Hawkins, brother to caterwaul cretin Justin Hawkins, of The Darkness.

In the coming weeks we'll be posting podcasts from G-Unit's supreme queen Olivia, actor/rocker Jared Leto (talking about his group 30 Seconds To Mars), the masters of drunken style rap, The Alkaholiks, and those legendary '80s arena rockers Journey among others.

For the meantime, however, we thought we'd re-post the holy triad that kicked off our ongoing podcast productions so that those of you who missed them the first time can get caught up and the rest of you can revisit them for nostagia's sake.
