Screaming Tarts interviews Richie...

+ posted by Sez

One week on from the release of "Silver Spoons & Broken Bones", we speak to Richie from The Stone Gods.

HEY HEY! HOW ARE YOU?
Very well thank you!!

SO YOU HAVE JUST RELEASED THE ALBUM. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT IT?
We're hugely proud of the record. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the making of it and I think it's all been worth it. It's a very diverse album, a real journey.

IT MUST BE GREAT TO FINALLY HAVE IT ALL COMPLETED AND OUT IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN?
It finally seems real now, it's great to walk into a record store and see your album on the shelf.

WHAT HAS THE INTIAL FEEDBACK FROM FANS AND THE MUSIC PRESS BEEN LIKE SO FAR?
The response has been awesome. We've had some great reviews in the press and, more importantly, we're getting daily messages on our myspace page from fans who love it, that means a lot.

I SEE NME RATED IT ZERO OUT OF TEN!
Well, we always expected them to slag it off and, to be honest, 0 out of 10 is the best review they could've given us. If it'd got 3 out of 10 with a bit of a slating that would've been worse. I have to say though that I struggle to see the point of them bothering with it, if it's truly that bad then why litter the pages of your magazine with it?, just don't review it!!

WHICH ARE YOUR TWO PERSONAL FAVOURITES ON THE ALBUM AND WHY?
My favorites change daily to be honest, at the moment I would say they are "Defend Or Die" and "Where You Coming From".

ANY INTRESTING TALES FROM THE STUDIO YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?
Nothing that could be printed on a family website!!!

YOUR DEBUT EP, "BURN THE WITCH", SOLD OUT IN ONE DAY! WERE YOU TEMPTED TO KEEP SOME COPIES BACK TO FLOG ON EBAY?!
I did, 4 of 'em, I'm holding on to them for now though.

THE DARKNESS WERE HUGE A FEW YEARS AGO. YOU MUST HAVE LOTS OF FOND MEMORIES. WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS?
There were some incredible times, too many highlights to mention really. I guess the shows were the highlight of it all really, however mad things were getting around it, when we walked out on stage that was what it was all about.

DO YOU THINK YOU WILL REACH THE SAME LEVEL OF SUCCESS AGAIN THIS TIME ROUND?
I would be surprised, I think what we're doing will appeal to a serious rock audience rather than the general masses.

JUSTIN IS NOW FRONTING A BAND CALLED HOT LEG! WHAT DO YOU THINK OF EM?
I think they're great, more rockin' than I expected it to be, I'll definitely be buying the album.

DO YOU THINK YOU'LL GO ON TOUR WITH THEM AT SOME POINT?
Who knows?, never say never.

HOW WERE YOUR RECENT UK SHOWS?
Awesome!! Definitely some of the best, most fun shows I have EVER done

YOU HAD TO CANCEL A FEW DATES DUE TO ED FALLING ILL. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HIM?
Sorry, that's nobody's business but Ed's, lets respect his privacy.

IS HE FIXED AGAIN NOW?
See above!!

YOU PLAYED AT THE DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL LAST MONTH. WILL YOU BE PLAYING ANYMORE OF THE BIG SUMMER FESTIVALS?
We're doing some EURO festies, not sure about any more in the UK, I would guess that our full on UK festival assault will be in 2009.

WHAT CAN THE PEOPLE READING THIS YET TO SEE YOU LIVE EXPECT FROM ONE OF YOUR SHOWS?
A bloody good night out

WHAT DO YOU GET UP TO WHEN YOU'RE NOT BUSY WITH BAND STUFF?
Writing songs, that's it really, everything I do involves music (I really should get a life!!!)

WHICH DO YOU ENJOY DOING THE MOST... WRITING SONGS, RECORDING THEM OR PLAYING THEM LIVE?
Definitely playing live. That's why you start a band in the first place and the buzz after your 100th gig is just as awesome as your first, I love it!!

WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND JOIN/FORM A BAND?
I'm not sure really, I've always been totally into music so I guess it was just listening to my heroes and thinking "it'd be awesome to be doing what they're doing!!!"

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND?
Do it. Don't expect a smooth ride, don't expect financial reward, just do it 'cus you love it and you'll have a ball.

ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?
Yes, what shall I have for lunch??
