When the rock 'n' roll rollercoaster that was THE DARKNESS came to an abrupt and messy halt with the departure of Justin Hawkins, the remaining members of the band — guitarist Dan Hawkins, bassist Richie Edwards and drummer Ed Graham — were staring premature retirement in the face. But when rock 'n' roll courses through your veins, surrender is never an option, and so within less than an hour after their erstwhile singer jumped ship, plans were already afoot to get the show back on the road. A year and a half on from those turbulent times, the eight-legged rock apocalypse known as STONE GODS is fired up and ready to roll.

The Darkness return!

Allow us to introduce Stone Gods. The band that has risen from The Darkness' ashes...

When Justin Hawkins split and The Darkness disintegrated, the remaining trio weren't inclined to get themselves day jobs.

“The whole thing had fallen apart,” says former bassist and Stone Gods’ singer/guitarist Richie Edwards. “I got the phone call from Justin and I thought ‘that’s it’, but half an hour later Dan rang me and said, ‘Rich, do you fancy doing a bit of singing?’ We got together and started writing and it’s snowballed from there.”

After the departure of Justin Hawkins, the powerful falsetto best known for his impressive effort on the chart topping hit “I Believe in a Thing Called Love,” the other members of the English rock group The Darkness were facing an early retirement.

But for the remaining members of the band — guitarist Dan Hawkins, bassist Richie Edwards and drummer Ed Graham -less than an hour after their singer jumped ship in 2006, plans were already afoot to get the show back on the road. The new project would be called Stone Gods.

Thin Lizzy rock the Regent

[...]The Stone Gods, a new name to most people, were last-minute replacements for Queensryche who pulled out earlier in the week.

But their line-up should be familiar to many, especially in this part of the world, because they are three-quarters of The Darkness - without Justin Hawkins - and are now looking to establish their own niche in the world of heavy metal music.[...]
